​​Established in 2025, the Orvin C. Kuehn School of Engineering Design was founded to teach students a practical, interdisciplinary approach to engineering with a focus on design, manufacturing, business, and creative problem solving, inspired by our namesake.

Orvin C. Kuehn was a high school drop out who taught himself home design, construction, unmanned aircraft design, and business, among other things. 65 years later, his granddaughter, Alex Kuehn, was born and the two connected on a fundamental level. The two of them shared many cherished and formative moments until his passing in 2009. While she graduated high school, she dropped out of engineering school at 19 and proceeded to work her way from technician up to VP of Engineering.

Today, she splits her time between her aerospace company, Stardust Redux, and the Orvin C. Kuehn School of Engineering Design where she hopes to change the way technical education is approached while passing along the skills and mindset that made her successful in engineering and business, despite her lack of a formal education.
